What is Cornhole?
It has been called many things, Corn Toss, Bean Bag, Bag Toss, Soft Horseshoes, but to many of us the game is passionately referred to as Cornhole.
Cornhole or Corn Toss is similar to horseshoes except you use wooden boxes called cornhole platforms and corn bags instead of horseshoes and metal stakes. Contestants take turns pitching their corn bags at the cornhole platform until a contestant reaches the score of 21 points. A corn bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point.
Scoring can be swift and the lead may change hands several times in a match before the winner is decided.
The game is generally played tournament style with an individual or team being named the champion at the end of the tournament.
The game is played with 4 players.
The boards are placed 27 feet apart front to front.
Teammates face each other from opposite boards.
Play starts at one end with all 8 bags.
Each team plays with a set of 4 bags of the same color.
Opponent’s alternate tosses until all 8 bags are thrown.
The round is then scored (see below).
Repeat the play from the other end and the highest scoring team from the previous throw goes first.
This tournament is double elimination and the teams are randomly seeded
The first team to score 21 points or higher wins. You must win by 2 points. There is NO skunk rule (11-0).
A team earns 1 point for bags on the board. They can’t hit the ground and then bounce into play, nor can they be touching the ground. It’s appropriate to remove all bags from the board that high the ground first. This is done before the play is continued.
A team earns 3 points for bags that go in the hole. They must go completely in the hole. Bags that are hanging in the hole only count for 1 point. If your opponent knocks your bag into the hole you still get the 3 points.
The score is the difference in the team totals. For example, After 8 bags played, Team #1 has thrown 1 bag into the hole and three off the board, their total is 3 points. Team #2 has thrown 1 bag on the board and three off the board, their total is 1 point. You subtract Team #2s score from Team #1s score and the total score for the round is that Team#1 earns 2 points, Team #2 is 0.
